چکیده

Wet, dry, and ash weights and calcium content were determined on demarrowed tibiae of normal and 'hypophysectomized' chick embryos from days 105 to 19-5 of incubation. All parameters noted above increased progressively through developmental time in normal embryos. VHypophysectomy' significantly affected bone wet and dry weights, and total mineral and calcium content. The data indicate that mineralization and matrix synthesis are retarded in the absence of the pituitary.

Effects of hypophysectomy and corticosterone acetate treatment on hepatic lipid composition in the chick (Gallus domesticus) embryo.

Lipid is transferred from yolk to liver and to other tissues at an accelerated rate after 16 days of incubation in the intact chicken embryo. Hypophysectomy (partial decapitation) at 36 hr of incubation reduced liver lipid content on Days 16 and 18. The greatest losses on Day 18 were among cholesterol esters but decreased unesterified cholesterol and phospholipid were also observed. Treatment o...

The effect of growth hormone on the incorporation of labeled sulfate into the chick embryo femur in tissue culture.

genesis, mechanism of the actions of the hormone on skeletal growth has been under study for many years. Despite these extensive studies the mechanism remains still obscure. Ellis et al.(1953) showed that the incorporation of radiosulfate into cartilage of immature growing rats was greatly reduced by hypophysectomy and restored by growth hormone administration. Denko and Bergenstal (1955) also ...

Developmental modulation of myosin expression by thyroid hormone in avian skeletal muscle.

It is well established that a rise in circulating thyroid hormone during the second half of chick embryo development significantly influences muscle weight gain and bone growth. We studied thyroid influence on differentiation in slow anterior latissimus dorsi (ALD) and fast posterior latissimus dorsi (PLD) muscles of embryos rendered hypothyroid by hypophysectomy or administration of an anti-th...

A Chick Embryo in-Vitro Model of Knee Morphogenesis

Background: In this feasibility study, a mechanically loaded in-vitro tissue culture model of joint morphogenesis using the isolated lower extremity of the 8 day old chick embryo was developed to assess the effects of mechanical loading on joint morphogenesis. Methods: The developed in-vitro system allows controlled flexion and extension of the chick embryonic knee with a range of motion of ...
